چکیده

Results: ABR threshold for air and bone conduction were 66.53 ± 7.12 and 12.55 ± 6.96 dBnHL, respectively, in children with congenital EACA, as well as 25.32 ± 2.66 and 10.71 ± 4.51 dBnHL, respectively, in children with normal hearing. The two groups showed statistical difference in air-conduction ABR thresholds. Meanwhile, air–bone ABR threshold gap was greater in children with EACA than in children with normal hearing, and bone-conduction ABR wave latencies did not statistically differ between the two groups.

Air and Bone Conduction Frequency-specific Auditory Brainstem Response in Children with Agenesis of the External Auditory Canal

Introduction  The tone-evoked auditory brainstem responses (tone-ABR) enable the differential diagnosis in the evaluation of children until 12 months of age, including those with external and/or middle ear malformations. The use of auditory stimuli with frequency specificity by air and bone conduction allows characterization of hearing profile. Objective  The objective of our study was to compa...

Bone-Anchored Hearing Aid vs. Reconstruction of the External Auditory Canal in Children and Adolescents with Congenital Aural Atresia: A Comparison Study of Outcomes

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Congenital aural atresia is a rare condition affecting 1 in 10,000-20,000 children a year. Surgery is required to restore hearing to facilitate normal development. The objective of this study was to compare outcomes in hearing, complications, and quality of life of surgical reconstruction of the external auditory canal reconstruction (EACR) and bone-anchored hearing aid (B...

Congenital external auditory canal atresia and methods of rehabilitation

Congenital external auditory canal atresia is a disorder with a prevalence of one in 10 000-20 000 live births and is bilateral in one third of the patients. With a conductive hearing loss of 60 dB, even unilateral atresia restricts hearing related social skills. The degree of middle ear deformity may make reconstruction surgery impossible or too hazardous, thus bone-conduction hearing aids hav...

CLASSIFICATION OF CONGENITAL MIDDLE AND EXTERNAL EAR MALFORMATIONS: CT STUDY

The authors used high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) for studying 52 congenitally malformed ears in 45 children between five and 10 years of age. In six children the malformations were bilateral. The malformations clinically manifested as microtia, atresia of the external auditory canal and conductive deafness. Analyzing anatomical details and pathological changes on HRCT axial sec...
